Hussam Farhoud

M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., C.C.D.S.

Dr. Farhoud is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a certified Cardiac Device Specialist by Heart Rhythm Society. He is also a Heart Failure/Cardiac Transplant Specialist. Dr. Farhoud graduated from medical school at Aleppo University in Syria. He was awarded a scholarship for additional training at Innsbruck University, Innsbruck Austria. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. He completed General Cardiology, Interventional (Coronary and Peripheral Vascular), Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant, and Nuclear Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center where he served as a faculty member during his last year of fellowship. Dr. Farhoud is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is the former Heart Failure Program Director and the Heart Transplant Cardiologist at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, and the former President of Medical Staff at Kansas Medical Center in Andover. He has extensive research experience in Heart Failure, Immunosuppression Therapy and Left Ventricular Assist Device. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, and Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. Dr. Farhoud is married and has three children.

Venkata S. Boppana

M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., F.A.B.V.M.

Dr. Boppana, Subbu as he prefers to be called, is Board-Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Echocardiography, and Vascular Interpretation. He specializes in percutaneous coronary and peripheral vascular interventions.

Dr. Boppana received his Medical Degree in 2007 from NTR University in Andhra Pradesh, India. He moved to the United States to pursue his passion for advanced training spending two years in cardiovascular research at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Boppana received his Internal Medicine training at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY. He received Cardiology training at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School further followed by Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Saint Louis University, Missouri.

He is a valedictorian graduate from NTR University with numerous awards including the best outgoing student. He received a total of 13 gold medals in medical school and received the highest honors in the entire state. He continued his passion here as well and was awarded best teaching resident for two consecutive years in Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. He published several papers and presented multiple sessions in the national meetings.

In his free time, Subbu likes spending time with his wife and daughter. His wife Dr. Kolli is pursuing her radiology training at Wesley Medical center. Dr. Boppana enjoys hiking, long drives and working out when possible.

Zaher Fanari

Dr. Fanari is the Director of Structural Heart Disease at Wesley Medical Center and Interventional Cardiologist/Endovascular Specialist at Heartland Cardiology. He is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, Nuclear Cardiology, Vascular Medicine and Endovascular Medicine. After graduating as the valedictorian from the University Of Aleppo, he trained in Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University, Cardiovascular Diseases at Thomas Jefferson University/Christiana Care Health System, Interventional Cardiology at the University Of Kansas followed by advanced Structural, Endovascular and CHIP fellowship at Prairie Heart Institute.

Dr. Fanari is proficient in performing complex PCI-CHIP, Advanced endovascular interventions (TEVAR, EVAR carotid, renal, iliac, femoral, popliteal & BTK) as well as advanced structural interventions (TAVR, TMVR, MitraClip, Watchman, PFO/ASD & PVL closure).

He received multiple research awards including ACC Young Investigator Awards (YIA) finalist in 2015 and 11th Annual Northwestern Cardiovascular YIA 2015, ACC 18 Best Challenging Case, CRT 2016 Top 15 Abstracts Award, CRT 2017 Top 30 Abstracts Award, CRT 2018 Best Structural Case, CRT 2018 Best Peripheral Case, CRT 2018 Best Complex Coronary Case, ASE Abstract Presenter Grant 2015, ACC Interventional Council Grant 2017 and Focus on Excellence Award at Christiana Care.

He serves on multiple leadership committees in the ACC including: the ACC Interventional Section Leadership Council, ACC Structural Heart Disease, ACC CHIP (Complex High-risk Indicated Patients), ACC Interventional Council Communication and ACC Patient Navigator Program Working Groups. He is recurrent faculty in many national and international meetings including ACC, CRT, SCAI, TCT and TVT.

He is the leading author in 55 manuscripts in addition to being a co-author of a book “Land Mark Clinical Trials in Cardiology.” He is the leading author in multiple book chapter including the Topol’s Textbook of Interventional Cardiology and The PCR-EAPCI Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine Textbook.

Wassim H. Shaheen


Dr. Shaheen is an interventional cardiologist who received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut. His internal medicine residency was at the University of Kansas, where he was honored as Chief Resident. After completing his cardiology fellowship at the University of Iowa (where he was Chief Fellow), he returned to Wichita in 2005. He is Board-Certified in Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. In addition to maintaining a busy practice, Dr. Shaheen has co-authored several journal articles. He was awarded a research grant for a two-year focused study on atherosclerosis. He was selected in Wichita Business Journal’s “Best Doctors in Cardiovascular Disease” in 2017. He was also elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® in 2017 to 2018. Dr. Shaheen has a passion for teaching and training future health professionals. He is Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Via Christi, and is also the Medical Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Labs at Wesley and the VA hospitals. Dr. Shaheen and his wife, Lisa Le (a physician at the KU School of Medicine), have three children Jad, Lana and Gabriella.

Ravi K. Bajaj

M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Bajaj is an interventional cardiologist who co-founded Heartland Cardiology in 1994. He is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He moved to Wichita from India at the age of 9 and attended school locally at Southeast High School and Wichita State University. His internal medicine training was at the University of North Carolina and his cardiology training was at the University of Alabama, where he was involved in some of the pioneering work on coronary stents. In addition to his interventional cardiology practice, he serves as Chairman of the Cardiology Executive Committee at Wesley Medical Center. He was selected in Wichita Business Journal’s “Best Doctors in Cardiovascular Disease” in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. He was also elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® in 2013-2014, 2015-2016 and 2017-2018. He is the past Medical Director of the Wesley Cardiovascular Center and is the past President of the American Heart Association. He is a recognized teacher and researcher and has presented at local and national cardiology meetings. When not at work, Dr. Ravi likes doing “anything outdoors.” He enjoys running, bicycling, swimming and doing triathlons. His greatest love is spending time with his wife and playing with his two children.

Husam Bakdash

M.D., F.A.C.C.

Dr. Bakdash is Board-Certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. He received his Internal Medicine residency training at St. Louis University and his Cardiology fellowship at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He is a clinical assistant professor at University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. He serves as the Chair of Cardiology at Via Christi Hospitals. He performs heart catheterizations, transesophageal echocardiography, permanent pacemaker implantations, and all types of stress tests. He has a special interest in preventive cardiology and non-invasive cardiac imaging. Dr. Bakdash enjoys spending his free time with his wife and four children.
